China Launches Large-Scale Military Drills Around Taiwan, Heightening Regional Tensions

Beijing / Taipei — China has launched extensive military exercises around Taiwan, involving coordinated operations by the army, navy, air force, and artillery units, in one of its most significant shows of force in recent months.

According to Chinese authorities, the drills are intended to test joint combat readiness and reinforce Beijing’s claim over Taiwan, which it considers a breakaway province. The exercises include naval maneuvers, aerial patrols, missile and artillery deployments, and simulated blockade scenarios in areas surrounding the island.

Taiwan’s government has condemned the drills, stating that it remains on high alert and is closely monitoring the situation to ensure national security and regional stability. Taiwanese officials emphasized their commitment to defending democratic institutions and maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait.

The military activity has raised serious security concerns across the Asia-Pacific region, with neighboring countries and international observers warning that such actions increase the risk of miscalculation. Global powers have urged restraint, calling for dialogue to avoid further escalation in an already sensitive geopolitical hotspot.

The drills underscore rising cross-strait tensions and reflect broader strategic competition in the region, with implications for international trade routes and global security.
