Beijing / Taipei — China has launched extensive military exercises around Taiwan, involving coordinated operations by the army, navy, air force, and artillery units, in one of its most significant shows of force in recent months.
According to Chinese authorities, the drills are intended to test joint combat readiness and reinforce Beijing’s claim over Taiwan, which it considers a breakaway province.
