Omicron variant blocks NAC plan to resume flights to Indian cities

December 2, 2021, Kathmandu .

Nepal’s national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation, had set a plan to resume flights to the Indian cities of Bangalore and Mumbai in the third week of December. However, the growing fears of the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus have forced the corporation to halt the plan.

The corporation was operating regular flights to both cities before the Covid-19 pandemic gripped the world in early 2020. Although flights to New Delhi have continued as a part of the Indian government’s Air Bubble scheme, India has not reopened other international flights yet.

The Indian government had already decided to resume the flights by December 15, but the decision has been put on hold again citing Omicron fears.

The corporation was planning to hold two flights to both Mumbai and Bangalore every week. But, the Indian government changed the decision to allow the flights before the schedule was published.

Meanwhile, the corporation is preparing to increase the number of per-week flights to Dubai of the UAE from seven to nine.
